Tutorial - how to make a pin wheel badge

I thought it was about time I did another tutorial for the blog and with the weather finally improving I thought of pin wheels. I have seen lots of different interpretations of these wind powered toys but mine is one you can wear.
First you need to choose a fabric that will not fray, I have chosen four different examples to show you, ultra suede, felt, oil cloth and a florist bonded fabric that I have no idea what the name is .

Then cut out a 10 cm square of your chosen fabric.

Then using something that will not show e.g a vanishing pen or dress makers pencil mark a line 3 cm in on each edge. (I have only used biro so it would stand out in the pictures) This will then give you a small square in the middle to cut to.

Cut from each corner of the larger square to the corner of the matching smaller square

Then fold one corner each triangle shape to the centre and secure with a stitch

Then sew a matching button onto the centre to cover your stitches

Finally attach a brooch back to the back of the pin wheel. You could cover the stitches with a piece of felt glued on with fabric glue but I'm not too fussy about the back as no one ever sees it.
